INTRODUCTION
1990년에 스웨덴에서 결성된 In flames는 93년에 와서야 스웨덴 인디 레이블인 Wrong again records와 계약을 맺게 되고 이후 94년에 이들의 데뷔앨범 「Lunar strain」을 발표한다. 여타의 앨범보다는 다소 정리되지 못한 데스메탈의 원초적인 사운드가 들리지만 다른 데스메탈 밴드에서 맛볼 수 없었던 In flame만의 멜로디 감각 을 느낄 수 있는 앨범이다. 이때의 멤버는 Jesfer stromblad(g, key, dr), Johan larsson(b), Glenn ljungstrom(g), Carl naslund(게스트g)와 현재 Dark tranquility의 보컬인 Mikael stane가 게스트로 참가하였다. 당시 Black sun record에서 발표한 메탈리카 트리뷰트 앨범인 「Metal militia」에서도 In flames는 메탈리카 4집「and justice for all」에 수록된 'Eye of the beholder'를 제공하였다. (보컬은 스웨덴의 록밴드 Ancient slumber의 Robert dahn과 드러머는 현 Dark tranquility의 Anders jivarp이다.) 95년에는 미니앨범 「Subterranean」을 발표하는데 이때도 보컬과 드러머자리는 게스트 뮤지션으로 채워졌다.(드라마틱한 멜로딕 블랙메탈 밴드인 Dawn의 보컬 Henke F , 현 Arch enemy의 드러머인 Daniel erlandsson이 참여하였다.) 바로 이 앨범에는 자타가 공인하는 멜로딕 데스계의 명곡 'Stand ablaze'가 수록되어 있다.
이번에 뒤늦게 발매되는 In flames 1집에는 「Lunar strain」10곡, 「Subterranean」5곡, 미발표곡 데모 트랙 2곡, 보너스 메탈리카 커버곡 'Eye of the beholder'까지 런닝타임 73분에 모두 수록되어 있다.
이 앨범은 한국팬들의 성원과 In flames 멤버들의 적극적인 요청에 의하여 발매하게 되었으며, 이로 말미암아 In flames의 모든 앨범이 발매되는 위업을 이루었다는 것에 의의를 두고 있다. ....  ....
