INTRODUCTION
2004년은 BAY AREA의 전설이 돌아온 해로 역사에 기록될 것이다. 이미 우리들에게 충격을 안겨 준 EXODUS의 “TEMPO OF THE DAMNED”의 2월 발매에 이어 이제는 또 다른 FRISCO BAY의 전설인 DEATH ANGEL이 주목을 받을 차례이다! 이 5인조는 1987년부터 1990년까지 기념비적인 앨범 " ;THE ULTRA VIOLENCE", "FROLIC THROUGH THE PARK" 그리고 무엇보다도 "ACT III"로 인해 전설로 승화 되었지만 결국 아쉽게도 연기처럼 사라지고 말았었다. “THE ART OF DYING”은 DEATH ANGEL의 14년 만의 공백 이후 첫 앨범이지만 “시간마저도 이들의 능력을 억누르지 못했다” 라는 사실을 모두에게 안겨주었다.
1980년대 이후로 라인 업은 거의 변동 없이 유지되었고-오로지 GUS PEPA만이 밴드를 탈퇴하여 TED AGUILAR로 교체된 것을 제외- DEATH ANGEL은 순수함의 걸작과 도련 되지 않은 위대한 쓰래쉬 메탈을 선보이면서 ’THROWN TO THE WOLVES’, ’THICKER THAN BLOOD’, ’PROPHECY’, "THE ART OF DYING"는 물론 놀라운 미드 템포의 ’THE DEVIL INCARNATE’, 잊혀질 수 없는 발라드 ’WORDS TO THE WISE’같은 강렬한 쓰래쉬 들을 이번 앨범에 담아내고 있다.
DEATH ANGEL은 BAY AREA에서 가장 어린 밴드 중 하나로 자신들만의 독특한 스타일로 결성 초기부터 많은 쓰래쉬 메탈 팬들에게 스릴을 안겨주었었다. 1986년, METALLICA의 KIRK HAMMET이 프로듀스한 첫 데모 앨범은 ENIGMA RECORDS와의 앨범 계약으로 이끌어1987년, 첫 앨범 “THE ULTRA VIOLENCE”를 발매하게 한다. (당시 드러머 ANDY의 나이는 고작 14살이었다고 한다.) 앨범에서 뿜어져 나오는 젊은 혈기와 때묻지 않는 에너지로 쓰래쉬 메탈 씬을 강타하여 처음 네 달 만에 40,000장 이상의 판매고를 올리게 되고 “FROLIC THROUGH THE PARK” 앨범이 이후 일년이 지나 발매되면서 훌륭한 리뷰는 물론 폭 넓은 대중성을 얻게 되는데 MTV HEADBANGERS BALL에서 “BORED”가 방영되게 되어 GEFFEN RECORDS와 독점계약을 맺기에 이른다. 이어진 걸작 “ACT III”는 지금까지 가장 독특하면서도 필수적인 쓰래쉬 메탈 앨범으로 손꼽히고 있으며 비디오 클립 “SEEMINGLY ENDLESS TIME” 과 “ROOM WITH A VIEW”가 MTV 고정 방영 리스트에 포함되면서
시작된 “ACT III 월드 투어”는 거의 매일 매진 사례를 이루기도 하였다.
밴드는 좀 더 높은 고지를 점령하게 되지만 동시에 안타까운 비극을 맞게 되는데, 1990년 미국 ARIZONA 사막에서 투어 버스가 사고로 인해 ANDY GALEON이 심각한 부상을 입게 된다. 일 년 동안 부상의 회복 기간을 갖는 동안, 보컬 MARK는 밴드를 떠나기로 마음 먹고 NEW YORK으로 이주하면서 잔여 멤버들은 THE ORGANIZATION을 결성하였고 이들은 1995년 해산하기 전까지 두 장의 성공적인 앨범을 발매하였다.
2001년 “THRASH OF THE TITANS FESTIVAL”를 통해 돌아온 DEATH ANGEL은 관객들에게 잊을 수 없는 무대를 선보이면서 이를 통해 많은 공연 제안을 받기 시작했고, DYNAMO OPEN AIR 2002, 유럽의 “NO MERCY FESTIVAL”에서 공동 헤드라인 투어는 물론 ANTHRAX, METALLICA, ROB HALFORD의 합동공연 오프닝을 맡기도 하였다. 마침내 “THE ART OF DYING” 앨범의 녹음 일정이 2003년 후반에 공고되면서 모든 DEATH ANGEL 팬들의 꿈이 실현되었다.
더 이상 “THE ART OF DYING”에 대한 어떤 설명도 필요치 않다는 것을 여러분도 잘 알 것이다. DEATH ANGEL은 이전 어느 때보다 더 생생히 살아 움직이고 있다. ....  ....
