INTRODUCTION
2000년대 들어 거세게 불고 있는 R&B/힙 합 음악의 열풍은 좀처럼 그 열기가 식을 줄을 모르고 있다. 가까운 예인 [빌보드] 팝 싱글 차트만 살펴 보아도, 작년부터 현재까지 차트 정상에 오른 곡이 대부분 R&B/힙 합 아티스트들의 곡들이니 말이다. 이전부터 흑인 음악 시장은 팝 계에서 상당 부분의 비중을 차지하고는 있었지만, 미국이나 영 국을 제외하고 이렇다 할 성과를 올리지 못했던 것이 사실이다. 그러나 현재 정상의 자리를 차지하고 있는 어셔USHER, 아웃캐스트OUTKAST, 알리샤 키스ALICIA KEYS 등의 아티스트들은 피부색과 국경을 뛰어 넘는 인기 가도를 달리고 있으며, 이로 인해 몇 년 전 만 해도 다소 취약했던 앨범 판매고 면에서도 우위를 점하고 있다. 아울러 국내에서만 봐도 홍대 일대에 위치한 클럽들을 통해 여러 R&B/힙 합 아티스트의 히트 곡들을 상시 들을 수 있을 정도니, 이제 R&B/힙 합 음악은 전 세계의 젊은이들에게 있어 마치 '최첨단 유행'과도 같은 위치에 올라 있는 듯 하다.
