INTRODUCTION
스웨덴의IN FLAMES만큼 이 메탈 씬에서 확고한 기반을 다진 밴드는 거의 없을 것이다. 이들의 전작 CLAYMAN (2000)은 음악의 모든 장벽을 허물어 뜨려 팬들로 하여금 모든 장르의 메탈 음악으로 빠져들게 했으며 익스트림 메탈과 멜로딕 메탈 모두에게 새로운 기준을 제시하였다.
같은 해에 미국과 유럽,일본 투어를 포함한 무려150회 이상의 공연을 가진 이들은 일본 의 정통 헤비메탈 전문지 BURRN! MAGAZINE을 통해IN FLAMES의 기타리스트이자 송라이터 JESPER STORMBLAD가 올해의 작곡자로 선정되는 영예를 얻기도 했다. 2001년 이들의 첫 라이브 앨범 [TOKYO SHOWDOWN ]은 성공적으로 마친 자신들의 유럽 투어이후 발매 되었으며 이후 가졌던 짧은 휴식기간도 잠시, 다시 이들은 새로운 아이디어와 함께 새로운 앨범 작업을 시작하였으며 반면에 SLIPKNOT의 영국 공연을 서포트 하기도 했고, 스튜디오에서는 다양한 실험적인 작업과 새로운 아이디어로 앨범 완성에 정진 하였다.
또한 본 앨범은 전작과의 거리를 두기 위해서 처음으로 FREDMAN스튜디오가 아닌 곳에 서 작업하였으며 자신들의 새로운 사운드에 최적의 결정으로써 STRAPPING YOUNG LAD와DARKANE,STUCK MOJO,MESHUGGAH등을 작업한 바 있는 DANIEL BERGSTRAND와 함께 그의 DUG OUT스튜디오에서 완성 되었다.
"스튜디오에서 충분한 시간이 있었기 때문에 모든 세부사항에 대해서 최선을 다할 수 있 었던 겁니다. 처음으로 내 보컬에 다른 여러 가지를 시도해 볼 수 있었고 정말 처음으로 노래하는 기분이 들었죠" 보컬리스트 ANDERS FRIDEN의 말이다. IN FLAMES는 자신들의 한계를 무너뜨린 새 앨범 [ REROUTE TO REMAIN ]을 통해 놀 랍도록 성장했음을 보여주고 있으며 이들의 멜로딕 하면서도 공격적인 메탈사운드 속에 서 수많은 영향을 발견 할 수 있는 것과 동시에 이들 자신이 스웨덴에서 멜로딕 데스 메탈 을 일으킨 전설적인 "GOTHERNBURG SOUND (예테보리 사운드)"를 창조해 낸 이래로 현재 2002년 IN FLAMES는 또다시 우리에게 새로운 기준을 확립 시켜 주었으며 다른 어떤 밴드보다도 앞서 우위를 차지하고 있다.
새 앨범은 모든 음악의 중심으로 정확하게 향하고 있고 모던함과 동시에 또한 공격적이다. IN FLAMES는 한 번 듣는 것 만으로 모두를 그들의 중독자로 만들 훌륭한 곡들을 창조하 는 방법을 잘 알고 있으며 수록곡 들은 이전보다 더욱 직선적이고 상상할 수 없을 만큼 공격적이며100% 메탈 그 자체이다.
