INTRODUCTION
얼마 전 국내 공연을 성대히 가졌던 소울계의 대부 제임스 브라운. 그를 빼놓고 과연 소울, R&B, 펑크 음악에 대해 논할 수 있을까. 브라운은 열정적이며 화려한 스테이지 매너로 라이브에서 더욱 진가를 발휘했던 뮤지션으로 본작은 이러한 그의 성향을 간파라도 한 듯 80년과 84년에 있었던 실황으로만 2장의 CD를 채우고 있다. 60년대부터 워낙 다양 한 활동과 수많은 히트 곡들을 양산했던 브라운인 만큼 본작은 모든 곡이 히트 곡이자 그의 대표곡으로 봐도 무방할 정도. 화려한 브라스 섹션과 시종일관 지치지 않고 넘실거리는 리듬 섹션 그리고 이에 지지 않고 한껏 에너지를 분출하는 브라운의 노래가 결코 지루할 틈을 안준다. 2시간 남짓 마치 제임스 브라운의 공연장에 온 듯 뜨거운 열기를 흠뻑 느낄 수 있으리라.
