I'm a honky tonk man, and I cain't seem to stop.
I love to give the girls a whirl to the music of an old jukebox. But when my money's all gone, I'm on the telephone Callin' he-ey moma can you're daddy come home? I'm livin' fast and dangerously, but I've got plenty of company. When the moon comes up and the sun goes down That's when I wanna see the lights of town. chorusx2 It takes a purdy little gal and a jug of wine, That's what it takes to make a honky tonk mind. With the jukebox a moanin' a honky tonk sound That's when I wanna lay my money down. chorus |

If you told me that you loved me I'd feel so proud
If you let me hold you honey I'd holler out loud. I'll never love another, even if I can. Oh come to me baby, I'm a one-woman man. (chorus) Oh wantcha let me baby just to kind of hang around. I'll always love ya honey and I'll never let let ya down. I'll never love another even if I can. Oh come to me baby, I'm a one-woman man. I'd climb the highest mountain if it reached up to the sky To prove that I loved you I would jump off and fly. I'd even swim the ocean from shore to shore To prove that I love just a little bit more. repeat chorus twice |

I'm living on the other side of the track it's true
But like it or not I'm just as good as you If I see you coming with your head held so high Don't you worry 'bout me speaking I'll pass you right on by This world is full of money but I haven't got a dime Had a million heartaches, but I'm happy all the time I can be like a tiger or as meek as a lamb If you wanna get along with me you'll take me like I am You can talk about your fancy friends and your millionaires I may not have their money but I don't have their cares You can live in a mansion set up on a golden throne But all these things you have in life are gonna vanish when I'm gone This world is full of money but I haven't got a dime Had a million heartaches, but I'm happy all the time I can be like a tiger or as meek as a lamb If you wanna get along with me you'll take me like I am This world is full of money but I haven't got a dime Had a million heartaches, but I'm happy all the time I can be like a tiger or as meek as a lamb If you wanna get along with me you'll take me like I am |

I have a story I'd like to tell broken heart's knowin' only too well
And she knows why I feel the way I do She gave me all her love and then she took it away blue sky has turned to a solid grey And she knows why I feel the way I do Well I know I'm a walkin' down the lovesick trails been walked down by many before But when she sees my side of tracks she'll know I've learned the score I'll pick my tears put 'em on the shelf keep my heartaches to myself Cause she'll know why I feel the way I do [ guitar ] When she finds somebody new then he'll find out what I went through Cause she knows why I feel the way I do She gave me her love and then she took it away blue skies had turned to a solid grey And she knows why I feel the way I do Well I know I'm a walkin'... |

OUT IN NEW MEXICO
WRITER JOHNNY HORTON It was in the town of Griffin In the year of '83 It was there an old cow-puncher Stepped up and said to me How do you do, young fellow And how would you like to go And spend a pleasant summer Out in New Mexico? I'll furnish you good wages Your transportation, too If you will but go with me One summer season's thru But if you grow homesick And back to Griffin go I'll furnish you no horses From the hills of Mexico. Well, we left the town of Griffin In the merry month of May When ev'rything seemed lovely And ev'rything seemed gay With saddles on our horses Marching onward, we did go Until we reached Old Boggy Out in New Mexico. It was there our pleasures ended And our troubles, they began Oh! the first hailstorm came on us Oh! how those cattle ran Thru all kinds of thorns and thistles The cowboys had to go While the Indians watched upon us Out in New Mexico. And when the drive was over The rider would not pay To all you good-lookin' people This much I have to say Go back to your friends and loved ones Tell others not to go To the God-forsaken country They call New Mexico. |

In 1814 we took a little trip
along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip. We took a little bacon and we took a little beans and we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans. *Chorus* We fired our guns and the British kept on comin' There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago. We fired once more and they began to runnin' down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. We looked down the river and we've seen the british come and there must have been a hunnerd of 'em beatin on the drum. They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring but we stood behind our cotton bales 'n' didn't say a thing. Chorus Ol' Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise if we didn't fire our muskets 'till we looked 'em in the eyes. We held our fire 'till we seed their faces well then we opened up the squirrel guns and really gave em.... well we Chorus Well they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go. they ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. We fired our cannon 'till the barrel melted down so we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round. We filled his head with cannonballs, powered his behind and when we touched the powder off the gator lost his mind. Chorus Yeah they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go. They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em A down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico. |

Saw you a-marchin' with Robert E. Lee
You held your head high tryin' to win the victory You fought for your folks, but you didn't die in vain Even tho' you lost they speak highly of your name, 'cause You fought all the way Johnny Reb, Johnny Reb You fought all the way, Johnny Reb I heard your teeth chatter from the cold outside Saw the bullets open up the wounds in your side I saw the young boys as they began to fall You had tears in your eyes 'cause you couldn't help at all, but You fought all the way Johnny Reb, Johnny Reb You fought all the way, Johnny Reb I saw Gen'ral Lee raise a sabre in his hand Heard the cannons roar as you made your last stand You marched in the battle of the Grey and the Red When the cannon smoke cleared, took days to count the dead, 'cause You fought all the way Johnny Reb, Johnny Reb You fought all the way, Johnny Reb When Honest Abe heard the news about your fall The folks thought he'd call a great vict'ry ball But he asked the band to play the song Dixie For you, Johnny Reb, and all that you believe You fought all the way Johnny Reb, Johnny Reb Yeah, you fought all the way, Johnny Reb You fought all the way Johnny Reb, Johnny Reb You fought all the way, Johnny Reb |

In May of nineteen forty-one the war had just begun
The Germans had the biggest ship that had the biggest guns The Bismark was the fastest ship that ever sailed the seas On her deck were guns as big as steers and shells as big as trees Out of the cold and foggy night came the British ship the Hood And evry British seaman, he knew and understood They had to sink the Bismark, the terror of the sea Stop those guns as big as steers and those shells as big as trees We'll find that German battleship thats makin' such a fuss We gotta sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us Hit the decks a-runnin' boys and spin those guns around When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down The Hood found the Bismark and on that fatal day The Bismark started firin' fifteen miles away We gotta sink the Bismark was the battle sound But when the smoke had cleared away, the mighty Hood went down For six long days and weary nights they tried to find her trail Churchill told the people "Put ev'ry ship a-sail" 'Cause somewhere on that ocean I know she's gotta be We gotta sink the Bismark to the bottom of the sea We'll find that German battleship thats makin' such a fuss We gotta sink the Bismark 'cause the world depends on us Hit the decks a-runnin' boys and spin those guns around When we find the Bismark we gotta cut her down The fog was gone on the seventh day and they saw the mornin' sun Ten hours away from homeland the Bismark made its' run The admiral of the British fleet said "Turn those bows around" We found that German battleship and we're gonna cut her down The British guns were aimed and the shells were comin' fast The first shell hit the Bismark |

Bear tracks bear tracks lookin' back at me Better get your rifle boy before it's too late Cause the bear's got a little pig and headed through the gate He's big around the middle and he's broad across the rump Runnin' ninety miles an hour takin' thirty feet a jump Ain't never been caught he ain't never been treed And some folks say he look a lot like me [ harmonica ] I saved up my money and I bought me some bees And they started makin' honey way up in the trees Cut down the trees but my honey's all gone Old Slew Foot's done made himself at home He's big around the middle... [ harmonica ] Winter's comin' on and it's twenty below And the river's froze over so where can he go We'll chase him up the gully then we'll run him in the well And shoot him in the bottom just to listen to him yell He's big around the middle... |

Well way down yonder on Candy Creek
I whittled out a fiddle from a wagon seat. I tune fiddle and I rub my bow. Play a little tune wherever I go. (chorus) Sleepy-eyed John, you better get yore britches on Sleepy-eyed John better tie your shoe. Sleepy-eyed John, you better goet your britches on. Try to get to heaven 'for the devil gets to you. Now Sleepy-eyed John he had a wooden leg. The wooden leg was nothing but a little wooden peg. With one shoe off and one shoe on Do the double-shuffle 'till the cows come home. chorus Over the hickory and down the pine The racoon left and the old hound whined. John said 'Sick 'em', and the racoon left. They crossed Green River in a minute and a half. chorus I took 20 dollars for to build a fence. I took my money and I ain't worked since. I sold my buggy and I sold my plow. I wouldn't take a dollar for my journey now. chorus |

The mansion I own has captured your heart
You said it was love dear but you lied from the start I wanted true love but you wanted my gold Someday you'll be sorry for the lies that you told You've stolen my heart and you cheated on me But someday my darling I know that you'll see A house without love can make you so cold And you will be lonely in the mansion you stole |
