그룹으로 결성하는 것이 어떠겠냐는 제안을 받게 되었고,
매력적인 다섯 소년은 이를 계기로
One Direction 이란 그룹을 결성하게 되며, 엑스팩터 파이널 리스트까지 진출 하게 된다.
공식적인 데뷔와 함께 발매된 그들의 첫 싱글 [What Makes You Beautiful] 은 UK 1위를 차지하며, 2011년 발매 동시에 가장 높은 세일즈를 기록한 싱글로 기록되었다.
