“다시 우리 앞에 놓인 전설의 명연”
리히테르의 평균율 클라비어곡집은 1970년부터 1973년까지 3년에 걸쳐 잘츠부르크의 교외에 있는 잔향이 풍부한 클레스하임 궁전에서 뵈젠도르퍼 피아노로 녹음됐다.
리히테르는 레퍼토리를 정하면 거기에 집중적으로 파고드는 경향이 있었다. 바흐 ‘평균율 클라비어곡집’의 경우 1969년 1월 레닌그라드에서 제1권을 이틀에 걸쳐 12곡씩 전곡을 연주한 이후 1년 동안 파리, 모스크바, 토리노, 로카르노, 영국 등 각지의 투어에서 이 곡을 연주했다.
다음해인 1970년 7월 잘츠부르크에서 열흘 동안 집중적인 세션을 계획해 스튜디오 녹음이 진행됐다. 제2권을 연주회에서 다룬 것은 1973년 3월이 되어서였다. 리히테르는 빈을 시작으로, 부다페스트, 투르크, 헬싱키, 파리, 인스부르크, 등에서 집중적으로 바흐 평균율을 연주했다.
제2권의 녹음은 1972년 8월부터 평균율 1권과 마찬가지로 잘츠부르크 녹음 세션에서 시작되었는데, 평균율 제2권 첫 연주회 직전에 가진 녹음으로 완성됐다.
리히테르의 ‘평균율 클라비어곡집’ 녹음은 1962년 5곡의 발췌 녹음(DG)이 존재한다. 1969년 4월 모스크바에서 가졌던 평균율 제1권 실황과 1973년 7월 인스부르크에서 연주한 전곡 실황도 남아 있다. 소니뮤직에서 발매하는 이번 녹음은 리히테르의 ‘평균율 클라비어곡집’ 중 유일한 스튜디오 녹음이다……..
40년이 더 지난 지금도 열기와 향기, 매력을 잃지 않는 연주다.
모든 연주를 소장할 가치가 있는 거장인 리히테르. 그가 남긴 최고의 기록 중 한 편이 오롯이 모습을 드러냈다. 귀중한 리히테르의 소니 뮤직 전집에 이어, 전집에 수록되지 않았던 평균율 전곡 연주까지 이번에 발매되어 반갑고 기쁘다.
