80년대 이후 더 이상의 스타가 존재하지 않는 메틀씬의 현실이 얼마 전에 들려온 메가데스의 해체 소식으로 새삼스럽게 상기되곤 하는 지금, 데빈 타운젠드의 존재는 팬들에게 일종의 위안이다. 프런트 라인 어셈블리, 스트리핑 영 래드 등의 밴드를 통해 그간 그가 들려준 음악은 말랑하고 톡톡 튀는 것이 미덕으로 인정받는 지금의 시대에 헤비함에 굶주린 팬들의 허기를 채워주고도 남는 것인데, 그 파괴력은 얼마전의 부산 국제 록 페스티벌을 통해 이미 국내 팬들에게도 입증된 바 있다. 그런 그가 새롭게 손에 들고 온 작품 [Terria]는 부산 공연을 통해 우리에게 보여준 모습과는 달리 약간 느슨한 리프, 길고 짧음을 적당한 선에서 유지하는 호흡, 수축과 팽창을 반복하는 탄력적인 멜로디로 설명된다. 테크닉에 집착하지 않는...
