Taking up my time again,
The one thing I can't stand, The coffee and the conversation never ends when All I really need to find, Is one short clever line, To pinpoint my disgust it's always just too much or not enough, And I'm overwhelmed. So I'll keep it simple for obvious reasons, And I'll say what I should and just hope you believe me, But it never gets easier, No it never gets easier, No, no, no. Sing it to myself again, I can't hear a word you said, The syllables, the sounds just aren't sentences and, All I really want to do, Is tear straight into you, Explode, unload a hail of insults until you finally get it, I'm sick to death. But I'll keep it simple for obvious reasons, (I'll keep it simple) And I'll say what I should and just hope you believe me, (Say what I should) But it never gets easier, No it never gets easier, Oh no, no. A strong distaste for confrontation, Leaves no room for self expression, such a strain to remain so docile, Though don't you know it all takes its toll... But I'll keep it simple for obvious reasons, (I'll keep it simple) And I'll say what I should and just hope you believe me, (Say what I should) But it never gets easier, Aw, it never gets easier, Hell it never gets easier (all I really want to do), Yeah it never gets easier (is tear straight into you), Well it... |

So Later that year, the bodies came home,
To Dover wrapped in flags and lined up in rows, With no one to see and no one to know, They had to keep morale from getting low: And the voice inside my head just repeating, "This is not the way we were told that it was going to be: This is not the way we were told that it was going to be:" (And we know who's to blame) (And we know who's to blame) (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, We did the math, it wasn't worth it after all, (And we know who's to blame) We did the math We did the math (And we know who's to blame) (And we know who's to blame) |

I'm tired.
Cynical and broken, but wiser. Heavy with a sense of resentment, but i used to be so much different, I used to have so much faith when I started. You knew that I always meant it. I knew I could make a difference, I struggled to be heard and then finally, one day people started listening. and I knew it but as soon as it began it was ruined. A slow descent from unique to routine, over and over, "just do it again and this time with feeling". The spotlight. The focus on the friends and the feelings. That made those stupid songs all worth singing. And don't you say a word unless you're pretty sure that you want it analyzed. So we drove for what seemed like days over roads and four lane highways. We said all we had to say and I realized in time that it didn't mean anything. Never, not ever again. Not like that. "It's only a matter of time". |

Oh my name it ain't nothin'
My age it means less The country I come from Is called the Midwest I's taught and brought up there The laws to abide And that land that I live in Has God on its side. Oh the history books tell it They tell it so well The cavalries charged The Indians fell The cavalries charged The Indians died Oh the country was young With God on its side. I've learned to hate others All through my whole life If another war starts It's then we must fight To hate them and fear them To run and to hide And accept it all bravely With God on my side Oh the First World War, boys It closed out its fate The reason for fighting I never got straight But I learned to accept it Accept it with pride For you don't count the dead When God's on your side. When the Second World War, boys Came to an end We forgave the Germans And we were friends Though they murdered six million In the ovens they died The Germans now too Have God on their side. But now we got weapons Of chemical dust If fire them we're forced to Then fire them we must One push of the button And a shot the world wide And you never ask questions When God's on your side. In a many dark hours I've been thinkin' about this That Jesus Christ Was betrayed by a kiss But I can't think for you You'll have to decide Whether Judas Iscariot Had God on his side. So now as I'm leavin' I'm weary as Hell The confusion I'm feelin' Ain't no tongue can tell My words fill the air They fall to the floor That if God's on our side He'll stop the next war. |

I swear i knew you when i knew You were there we loved and learned under the sun We had more fun than anyone She's eight years old and moving out She's half way cross the country now She's smarter than the lot of us She doesn't break or bend or fuss Maybe she's in heaven now Or maybe she's back here somehow She's wearing all her finest clothes And draped in jewelry head to toe It is impossible to know There is no ending to the show No grand finale, big hurrah One day we're here the next we're not Oh look what I've done here Ooh ooh look what I've done here Let these thoughts creep in Let em seep right in Let these thoughts creep in Let em seep right in I hope she doesn't have to see What became of her family Her father left after she died Her brothers cried and cried and cried She took your man i took your name The Miracle That Never Came But oh, her life was beautiful She'll live through me & live through you I used to sing you lullabies I'd hold you when you'd start to cry I was your mother and your friend Don't you remember me from then? Here in this yellow room blocking the screaming
Sounds from the stage There's silhouettes passing by in the doorway I pay no mind You're half dressed and star struck Will they pull you out Will they bring you back We both know it's coming You aren't the first You won't be the last So take it all off to them Take it all off to them I swear they'll like it I'm listening what they say Feeling less and less OK But it's the same old story How do i fix my head? How do i fix my head Living in a world Where changing what you've got Makes you better Whys that plastic surgery Just what you need then you'll be happy Surrounded by mirrors and people who stare silently Judging Depending on make up And being adored Can't be self assured I wish that i could make you see How do i make you see Without it all you're lovely I'm listening what they say Feeling less and less OK But it's the same old story How do i fix my head? Some of us are born
And then some of us are born again Some of us are scared to death And some just don't believe in it Something's always wrong There's a line An idea i cant get behind No one knows whats right Some try Some just try to find a king They say Who will save us now It's our life But we don't want to live it We want to be told how By something or someone Who's better than us Who we know we can trust Who will always protect us Keep us scared to death So we never ask questions We'll dictate the consequences of our actions And give us peace of mind about our miserable lives Find it content all we want is a place we can hide We can hide Someone always fought You can rest assured It's the young and the poor who fought all out wars Led to death by men who they chose And hoped would protect them Who will save us now It's our life but we don't want to live it And all you'll get is down Cause the people you elect to protect your best interests Will just protect themselves and all their investments And even the few with the best of intentions Will just push their views on what they think is right for you And everyone else, you can't think for yourself Cause you've chosen to let someone else do it for you So we're left to drift between our waking life and all our dreams, Reality is relative, And that's all the advice I'll give. And that's all the advice I'll give Life and death are hard They're such strange and complicated issues So listen listen well For insight And no one knows what's right for you Who will save us now It's a wrong And irrelevant question We figure it out With the people who love us Who call us our brothers Through lessons we've learned From our fathers and mothers Now looking for someone to find our solutions To fight all our battles Or show us what truth is By working hard to find our own piece of mind Living and learning till we know what's right for our lives our lives |

But they didn't believe me They still don't today They never do anything the haven't before In the same In the same solemn room with no lock on the door and over and over and over again The same failed solutions to all the same problems They scream "Why? Why? I can't understand Why the things that I do never go as I've planned!" And the vultures begin Their slow circling The dogs lick their teeth Bright white and gleaming But just hold your tongue Barely begun to fight until now Let's see what you've got This wide open shot Take it or leave it Cause we're getting out We're getting out alive And you'll never Find us again You'll never find us again |

Taken in context,
It's not a bad thing, But when you start to pick it apart, It gets so depressed, It's that sort of thing, That makes you think too much, It's that sort of thing, Makes you lose your objectivity, So if you made it, Just be glad that you did and stay there, If you ever feel loved or needed, Remember that you're one of the lucky ones, And if it's over, Just remember what I told you, It was bound to happen so just... Keep moving on, There are no perfect endings, You peel back the layers And get down to the inside, But sometimes you loose sight, Of what it was you were trying to find, And it's that sort of thing, That makes you think too much, It's that sort of thing, Makes you lose your objectivity So if you made it, Just be glad that you did and stay there, If you ever feel loved or needed, Remember that you're one of the lucky ones, And if it's over, Just remember what I told you, It was bound to happen so just... All the boys voices cracking,
Oh, the moaning half tones, Come summer time, We're all the same age here, All the tension and the terror, Thin limbed gorgeous green eyes smiling, And I'm going straight to hell, All the possibility and promise just, Weighs on me so heavily, And I try but I'm not convincing, Your lips they pout and twist and, I die trying just to keep myself from kissing you, You take in everything with a certainty I envy It's somehow all I need just keep me guessing please, Oh darling all of these awkward jump-start-stalling conversations, Mean much more to me than anything, So it comes down to me and you and, Whether were supposed to or not we still will, We're so much better off than them, All the possibility and promise just, Weighs on me so heavily, And I try but I'm not convincing, Your lips they pout and twist and, I die trying just to keep myself from kissing you, You take in everything with a certainty I envy It's somehow all I need just keep me guessing please! A look, A laugh, A smile, A second, Passes by and I regret it, Words just aren't right, Sometimes I just can't explain, All the ways you devastate me, Always on my mind, I try but I'm not convincing, Your lips they pout and twist and, I die trying just to keep myself from kissing you, You take in everything with a certainty I envy It's somehow all I need just keep me guessing, I try but I'm not convincing, Your lips they pout and twist and, I die trying just to keep myself from kissing you, You take in everything with a certainty I envy It's somehow all I need just keep me guessing please. |

Sing me something soft, Sad and delicate, Or loud and out of key, Sing me anything, we're glad for what we've got, Done with what we've lost Our whole lives laid out right in front of us, Sing like you think no one's listening, You would kill for this, Just a little bit, Just a little bit, You would, Sing like you think no one's listening, You would kill for this, Just a little bit, Just a little bit, You would, you would.... That you recoil when I get close, And oh, the awful grin, That greets me when I know I'm wrong, So down on hands and knees, Choking, gasping, dripping spit, I just can't make good on any of these promises, Then he asked me, What does that mean? What's another word for desperate? Repetition makes an impression, What's another word for desperate? I won't be around here for to very long, So tip the bottle back, Bubble foam, And watch it break, We can all be sure, Something awful's coming this way, So take this medicine, In measured doses, Take your time, Cause they'll tear into you! They will, they will... They will, they will... Then he asked me, What does that mean? What's another word for desperate? Repetition makes an impression, So what's another word for desperate? And all our sins come back to haunt us in the end. To hang around, and tap us on the shoulder. And smile, silent. "It's all implied. You'll die trying to live this down. You might as well forget it." Still, I'm convinced wondering 'what if' is the worst thing there is. So we bottled and shelved all our regrets. Let them ferment and came back to our senses. Drove back home, slept a few days. Woke up and laughed at how stupid we used to be. And all these lines fall short of what I had in mind. The failed attempt to capsilize a feeling. So I just try, fail, and try and try again. And someday I swear I'm gonna get it. Cause I'm convinced giving in is ther worst thing there is. So we bottled and shelved all our regrets. Let them ferment and came back to our senses. Drove back home, slept a few days. Woke up and laughed at how stupid we used to be. We'll get over it. Sad, strong, safe, and sober. We'll move forward and know where we went wrong. But you can't go home again. You can't go home again. You can't go home again. You can't go home.. You can't go home again! You can't go home again! You can't go home again! So we bottled and shelved all our regrets. Let them ferment and came back to our senses. Drove back home, slept a few days. Woke up and laughed at how stupid we used to be. |

Damage control. They're so thoroughly modern. We'll tell you how it goes. It's not a serious problem. So... We can be convinced And we can get convinced. But either way the truth is bound to get twisted. You can take a break when the fate of the world is waiting on your next decision. So I focused on what I'd been promised Then they tore us open, And bled us dry of our dignity and money. It's all under control. Keep holding it together. Things just fall apart. But you know, we can't wait forever. So... Come on, try and keep this, keep this. You can grit your teeth and do your job. They'll never know the difference. Keep it going one day, a month, a year, or more. Ignore that sinking feeling. So I focused on what I'd been promised Then they tore us open, And bled us dry of our dignity and... So I focused on what I'd been promised Then they tore us open, And bled us dry of our dignity and money. Should have seen it coming. Should have seen it coming. Should have seen it coming. We left ourselves wide open. So I focused on what I'd been promised Then they tore us open, And bled us dry of our dignity and... Maybe we can all retain a bit of ourselves. Remember who we were and keep on moving. Put things to perspective, try and learn a lesson. It's not life or death, it's only business. No, no, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. |

I don't wanna be forgotten, While you're putting all your time in, Into the things that don't mean anything to me, It's too bad, It's even sadder, I'm losing everything that I thought, This was a lost cause, It was! And I never knew it. I never knew it. Try 'em on and let 'em go, It might be best to just forget me, You walk away, You know you're better off to, Your better off to... Call me... Call me... I'll answer... Do you think that this could work out? Do you think you could come around? Do you think that this could work out again? I don't... I don't wanna be forgotten, While you're putting all your time in, Into the things that don't mean anything to me, Wasting faster than the hourglass, It's slow but I'm not ready, Not okay, Don't make this harder than it already had to be, Call me... Call me up... I'll answer... Do you think that this could work out? Do you think you could come around? Do you think that this could work out again? I don't... I don't wanna be forgotten, While you're putting all your time in, Into the things that don't mean anything to me, Do you think that this could work out? Do you think you could come around? Do you think that this could work out again? I don't... |

It takes more time than I've ever had,
Drains the life from me, Makes me want to forget, As young as I was, I felt older back then, More disciplined, Stronger and certain, But I was scared to death of eternity, I was saved by grace, But destroyed by naivety, And I lied to myself, And said it was for the best, And now faith is replaced with a logic so cold I've disregarded what I was, Now that I'm older, And I know much more than I did back then, But the more I learn, The more I can't understand, And I've become content with this life that I lead, Where I drink to much and don't believe in much of anything, And I lie to myself, And say it's for the best, We're moving forward, But holding ourselves back, And we're waiting on something that will never come, We're moving forward, But holding ourselves back, And we're waiting on something that will never come, We're moving forward, But holding ourselves back, And we're waiting on something that will never come, We're moving forward, But holding ourselves back, And we're waiting on something that will never come, We're moving forward, But holding ourselves back, And we're waiting on something that will never come, We're moving forward, But holding ourselves back, And we're waiting on something that will never come. |

moving in slow like the smoke from your cigarette.
every step closer's a step that we both will regret. keeping a tally, but who can keep track? your overreacting is taking me back to a time better left alone. holding onto the phone, holding onto this glass, holding onto the memory of what didn't last. waiting for better words, they'll never come. so dry your eyes, it's better. now it's done. keep a tight grip like a child holding onto a swingset. waiting and hoping to find what i can't figure out yet. please don't unless this is something to me. another nightmare instead of a dream. better left alone. holding onto the phone, holding onto this glass, holding onto the memory of what didn't last. waiting for better words, they'll never come. so dry your eyes, it's better. now it's done. i never lost so much.(x3) holding onto the phone, holding onto this glass, holding onto the memory of what didn't last. waiting for better words, they'll never come. so dry your eyes, it's better. now it's done. |

You just can't relax,
And you can't rely, On anyone for anything, So you make your complaints, And all everyone's let you down, You just cant, Ever win, Convinced there's a war on, It's always everybody versus you, Convinced that your critics are watching, And you've always got something, You've always got something to prove, So tie the noose, And raise the cross, The martyr's arrived, A desperate plea for sympathy, It's all you'll need, A laundry list of problems, Doesn't make you interesting, And never getting help doesn't make you brave, Not listening to reason doesn't mean that you have faith, Your just cutting off your nose to spite your face, So tie the noose, And raise the cross, The martyr's arrived, A desperate plea for sympathy, It's all you'll need! And you want it all You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all, You want it, you want it all. |
