Subject : The Cooper Temple Clause - See This Through and Leave (BMG,2002)

50년 유구한 역사를 자랑하는 NME의 판매고가 턱없이 하락하고 있어 폐간될지도 모른다는 이야기가 나돈다. 자칭 영국 내 '천상 천하 유아독존' 라는 NME가 도대체 왜? 잡다한 이유들을 다 제치고 꼽을 수밖에 없는 가장 큰 원인은 사람들이 굳이 돈을 내고 사서 읽고 싶을 만큼 멋진 음악을 하는 밴드가 없다는 것이다. 현재 브릿 씬이 이토록 지지부진한 이유는 그들이 일군의 포스트-라디오헤드 밴드 같은 인상을 지우지 못하고 있으며(여기에는 영국 프레스들의 입김도 한 몫 했다) 기량 또한 고만고만하기 때문이다. 씬을 휘두를 영향력을 행사하는 거대 밴드가 나오지 않으면서 또 다양성도 없는 매우 심심한 상황에 이른 것이다.팝의 종주국이라는 자존심으로 똘똘 뭉친 영국이 이런 사태를 관망할 리 없고 프레스들은 좀 더 ...
