It's so very dark in here
There's water on the wall I can see no lights and what's that sound That droning far above the smoke And everywhere I look their eyes are watching me. Hello my friend The day is long and I am very hot This metal world The lower half of every face is lit Everytime I look the clock is calling me On the tick and the tock. I've got my love to get me there But I've more pain that I can bare There is a world to find and share Oh Saturday - Oh Saturday And I can see a dying race, who live their lives On the tick and the tock, in between. |

I'm hopelessly waiting in line
For what I don't know I don't mind There's never a day that goes by Without blood on my hands in my hair. I'm hopelessly working in line On what I don't care I don't mind There's nothing that I would give To see what comes out at the end. |

The day is nearly ended hurry home to your bed
My nights are oh so lonely come and lay down your head The eyes of all our children growing heavy with sleep And with one final flicker into a world full of dreams. Oh I need you now through the lonely nights And when the morning comes upon us I'll be holding you so close to me. The grass is never greener either side of the wall If I am here or somewhere many miles away For I have come to realize nothing changes at all. Oh I need you now through the lonely nights And when the morning comes upon us I'll be holding you so close to me. |

And I feel like the night is closing - I know it is
Do you feel it burning in my blood Burning in my blood like it's setting me fire. And I feel like a cloud is closing in - I know it is As I slip into a hazy crazy world - I know I am Sooner or later moonshine in my brain Turning me around till there's madness in the air. Turning water into wine, till there's nothing left to burn Courage deserted me tonight. And in the moments that I have when peace is all around I can see clearly now, and what I see There's your world and there's mine There's so little in between But listen my love We will never know which one of us has got it right. Coz baby the things I do are hurting everyone I know they are. I've got to try to find the door Sooner or later it will turn me inside out Begone all those who would torment me I've an answer for you now. And I'm glad it's not late to give it up - I know it's not All I need's a year or two to rearrange - to rearrange I can feel it burning in my blood Turning me around till there's madness in the air. Turning water into wine, till there's nothing left to burn Courage deserted me tonight. And in the moments that I have when peace is all around I can see clearly now, and what I see There's your world and there's mine There's so little in between But listen my love We will never know which one of us has got it right. Turning water into wine, till there's nothing left to burn Courage deserted me tonight. Turning water into wine, till there's nothing left to burn Courage deserted me tonight. |

It's been so many years since I saw your face,
But now I'm home again back in my old place And though you're not quite sure you think you see me by the door I'll be there. When the winter comes knocking on the door And you've the firelight dancing on the floor In the dead of night when every star is burning bright I'll be there Time and time again I am always there to see you through the night Time and time again Rest your tired head and it will be alright and after all is said, is said and done Oh God you'll never know Just how lonely life can be for me. So let me tell you now what it's like to be The one whose memories are scattered on the sea When the wind goes down you'll see them lying all around. On a cloudy day, high up in the sky There's a lonely bird who's sailing round and round Looking for a place to land down on the ground, for a while Over and over again Please give your love to me Throw it in the wind and I'll be there. Deep within the darkness I'm the shadow next to yours I'll be there. Time and time again I am always there to see you through the night Time and time again Rest your tired head and it will be alright And after all is said, is said and done Please give your love to me Throw it in the wind and I'll be there. |

There never was a moment I wasn't sure
I would be someone who roamed the world And when the time was ready and so was I get out of here onto the streets Who'll make everything better, who'll make everything better. The life that I was living, the great outdoors Stars up above me everynight, as I lay down my head Who'll make everything better, who'll make everything better. Get out of bed I hear them singing all along the way You're where you want to be out on the open road again Ain't that peculiar, you're on you're own again You're on your own, on your own, I guess you always were. One day you come to realise you're getting old No one to share the lonely days, to be together Who'll make everything better, who'll make everything better. Get out of bed I hear them singing all along the way Too late to change it all, the gypsy in your blood has gone Ain't that peculiar, you're on your own again You're on your own, on your own, until the very end. |

How, how can I
How can I be back here again It was just the other day. That I, I said I I said I would be moving on Seems to me I'm going round and round It's the only way I know. Every road that I take is the same Everyway I go, everyday I go Leading me back the way I've just come Every road that I take is the same Don't be sorry please, don't you worry please I will be back again very soon. Then, when I know I know that I have stayed too long And there's nothing left for me to say So I'll be on my way Every road that I take is the same Everyway I go, everyday I go Leading me back the way I've just come Every road that I take is the same Don't be sorry please, don't you worry please, I will be back again very soon. Follow me now, wherever I go Follow me now. |

Get the money and run
Now's not the time to hang around Overnight job it's an overnight job Anymore for anymore Think it over, you've always got to be Just one more step ahead Everyone said that it couldn't be done And I know that's why you're here tonight You've got everything that you need for the job I hope that it all works out right. Out on the streets at the dead of night There's nobody else around Overnight job it's an overnight job Anymore for anymore Think it over, you've always got to be Just one more step ahead Coz everyone said that it couldn't be done And I know that's why you're here tonight Over your shoulder the day's getting bolder The shadows are fading away. Because everyone's got it inside, just a little bit somewhere Overnight job it's an overnight job Think it over, you've always got to be Just one more step ahead Everyone said that it couldn't be done And I know that's why you are here tonight Over your shoulder the day's getting bolder The shadows are fading away. |

No Son of Mine
Well, the key to my survival was never in much doubt the question was how I could keep sanetrying to find a way outthings were never easy for me peace of mind was hard to find and I needed a place where I could hide somewhere I could call mineI didn't think much about it til it started happening all the time soon I was living with the fear everyday of what might happen at nightI couldn't stand to hear the crying of my motherand I remember when I swore that, that would be the last they'd see of me and I never went home againthey say time is a healer and now my wounds are not the same I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth I had to hear what he'd sayHe sat me down to talk to me he looked me straight in the eyeshe said: You're no son, no son of mine You're no son, no son of mine You walked out, you left us behind and you're no son, no son of mine Oh his words how they hurt me, I'll never forget it and as the time, it went by, I lived to regret it You're no son, no son of minebut where should I go and what should I doyou're no son,no son of mine but I came herefor help, I came here for you Well the years they passed slowly I thought about him everyday what would I do, if we passed on the street would I keep running away in and out of hiding places soon I'd have to face the facts we'd havw to sit down and talk it over and that would mean going back they say that time is a healer and now my wounds are not the same I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth I had to hear what he'd say He sat me down to talk ro me he looked straight in the eye she said:You're no son of mine. |

In the early 1800's, large groups of mainly unskilled labourers built England's Railways. The cost in human terms alone was very high...
Leaving my family behind me not knowing what lay ahead waving goodbye, as I left them in tears remembering all we'd said I looked to the sky, I offered my prayers I asked Him for guidance and strength but the simple beliefs of a simple man lay in His hands, and on my head I gave everything that they wanted but still they wanted more we sweat and we toiled good men lost their lives I don't think they knew what for I sold them my heart I sold them my soul I gave everything I had ah but they couldn't break my spirit my dignity fought back, fightback can you hear me can you see Don't you hear me don't you see We worked in gangs for all we were worth the young boys pulling the wagons we were digging the tunnel, shifting the earth it was then that it happened. No-one knew how the cracks appeared but as it fell they all disappeared stone fell like rain Can you hear me, Can you see Don't you hear me Can you breathe The smoke cleared, the dust it settled No one knew how many had died all around there were broken men they'd said it was safe, they'd lied you could hear the cries, you could smell the fear but good fortune that day was mine and it occurred to me the heart of a good man it seems is hard to find. Can you hear me, can you see Don't you hear me don't you see We worked, how we worked like the devil for our pay through the wind, through the snow, and through the rain Blasting and cutting through Gods country like a knife sweat stinging my eyes, there has to be a better life Ah but I can hear my childrens' cry I can see the tears in their eyes memories of those I've left behind still ringing in my ears Will I ever go back again Will I ever see her face again I'll never forget that night As they waved goodbye to their fathers We came from the North, and we came from the South with picks and with spades and a new kind of order showing no fear of what lies up ahead They'll never see the likes of us again Driving the last spike, lifting and laying the track with blistering hands, the sun burning your back Oh but I can hear my childrens' cry I can see the tears in their eyes memories of those I've left behind still ringing in my ears Well I'll always remember that night, As they waved goodbye to their fathers We followed the rail, we slept under the stars digging in darkness, and living with danger showing no fear of what lies up ahead they'll never see the likes of us again can you hear me can you see Don't you hear me don't you see |

Hot sun beating down
burning my feet just walking around. Hot sun making me sweat 'Gators getting close, hasn't got me yet I can't dance, I can't talk. Only thing about me is the way I walk. I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling everything. Blue jeans sitting on the beach, her dog's talking to me, but she's out of reach. She's got a body under that shirt, but all she wants to do is rub my face in the dirt. Cos, I can't dance, I can't talk. Only thing about me is the way I walk. I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling. Oh and checking everything is in place, you never know who's looking on. Young punk spilling beer on my shoes, fat guy's talking to me trying to steal my blues. Thick smoke, see her smiling through. I never thought so much could happen just shooting pool. But I can't dance, I can't talk. The only thing about me is the way that I walk. I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling Oh and checking everything is in place You never know who's looking on A perfect body with a perfect face - uh-huh. No, I can't dance, I can't talk. The only thing about me is the way I walk. No, I can't dance, I can't sing I'm just standing here selling everything. But I can walk. No I can't dance. No no no I can't dance No I said I can't sing. But I can walk. NEVER A TIME There is never a time to say cos it seems to me we've lost our way so we carry on, down the road and we live our lives haunted by all the things we say and do keep on missing, when I'm alone with you No there's never a time to change you don't get a chance to re-arrange it's a long long long way to go just to find out something, we both know can't you see what's going on it's so sad, that a love so strong, has gone All I know is what is true All I ask is for you To just look around and see You live your life locked in a dream Where nothing is real, and not what it seems We can't go on another day Just being afraid to say It's a long long way to fall When we both thought we had it all Well you know it's the time to say cos we're all played out, we've lost our way Oh, I hoped that you would be oh so understanding and by now you'd see, but oh no so sad, oh so sad, that's the way that it goes I know, I'm gonna tell you right now |

In and out of darkness, in and out of sleep
trying to keep my hands upon the wheel. Never saw the corner in the driving rain. I never saw her step into the street. Dreaming while you sleep dreaming while you sleep memories to keep dreaming while you sleep I can never understand what went thru my mind I didn't stop to see what I had done. Had to keep on driving deep into the night the miles between would somehow put it right Dreaming while you sleep dreaming while you sleep memories to keep dreaming while you sleep All my life you lie silently there All my life in a world so unfair All my life and only I'll know why and it will live inside of me, I will never be free all my life, trapped in her memory all my life Till the day that you open your eyes, please open your eyes Dreaming while you sleep dreaming while you sleep Heard it on the radio, saw it on TV, but could I take my secret to the grave. If I had another chance, would I do the same. Would I still deny that it was me. Dreaming while you sleep dreaming while you sleep Dreaming while you sleep, Are you dreaming while you sleep? All my life I'll be haunted by all my life just one moment in time all my life until the day I die and it will live inside of me Oh I will never be free all my life trapped in her memory all my life Till the day that you open your eyes All of my life - you lie silently there All my life - in a world so unfair All my life - and only I know why And it will live inside of me I will never be free all my life Trapped in her memory - all my life Till the day that you open your eyes. All of my life. Just one moment of time, all my life. |
