스매싱 펌킨스(The Smashing Pumpkins)는 1988년에 결성된 미국 시카고 일리노이출신의 얼터너티브 록 밴드이다. 1990년대에 큰 성공을 거둔 밴드 중 하나이다. 빌리 코건(기타/백보컬), 제임스 이하(기타/백보컬)가 결성하고 후에 디아시 레츠키(베이스/백보컬), 지미 체임벌린(드럼/타악기), 멜리사 아우프 데어 마우어(베이스)가 영입되었다.

몇 년 전 빌리 코건(Billy Corgan)은 스매싱 펌킨스(The Smashing Pumpkins, 이하 '펌킨스')의 해체가 제임스 이하(James Iha)와의 불화 때문이라고 밝혔는데, 당시 코건의 솔로 활동은 펌킨스 때와는 비교도 할 수 없을 정도로 대중의 관심에서 벗어나 있었다. 그래서 코건의 뒤늦은 폭로(?)는 '전부 다 너 때문이야'와 같은, 한풀이를 위한 뒷담화 뉘앙스를 풍겼다. 그쯤 되자 펌킨스의 재결성은 불가능하리라는 것이 세간에 굳어진 생각이었다.
