스케이트 보드 펑크락을 기반으로 서정적 멜로디와 즐거움을 가득 담은 멜로딕 펑크로도 정의되면서 메시지 전달에 더욱 정평이 나있는 스크라이커스. 새로운 베이시스트 Avail의 영입으로 더욱 스트레이트한 사운드를 들려주고 있다. 멤버 전원이 수려한 외모를 가지고 있어 많은 여성팬들을 보유하고 있는 꽃미남 밴드.
“감동과 즐거움이 가득한 멜로딕 펑크 밴드”라고 설명되는 이들은 지난 2004년말 한국에서 최초의 뉴스쿨 밴드로 주목을 받은 바 있던 Drorian과 바세린 세션 기타리스트 출신 김성환을 중심으로 조직된 밴드이다. 락계 상당수를 차지하는 우울한 메세지와 이미지에 염증을 느낀 이들은, 건설적이고 긍정적인 삶에 대한 메시지를 담아 언제나 밝은 내면을 표현하고자 노력하자는 결성 동기를 가지고 있기도 하다. 결성되자마자 열성적인 라이브 클럽 활동으로 지지 기반을 확보했고, 데모싱글의 매진 사태(?!) 등등의 화제를 계속해서 몰고 다니면서 결국 일본에까지 소문이 났고, 공연이 10차례도 되지 않은 상태에서 국내에서 보다 먼저 일본에서 다양한 컴필레이션 참여와 투어 확정 등의 가시적인 성과를 이룬다. 이들이 최초로 녹음/참여한 [Kick Your Earth] 컴필레이션은 미국, 프랑스, 일본, 한국, 이탈리아, 캐나다, 포루투갈에 이르기까지 총 7개국에서 발매 됐고, 그 반응은 수많은 팬레터와 일본내 팬카페 통해 확인이 되었다. 또한 함께 공연한 해외 밴드인 No Gain. Arkangel 같은 아티스트 팬들을 만들기도 했다.
또한 이들은, 많은 펑크 밴드들의 단순한 메세지에 대해 불만이 많았다. 만약 우리가 음악을 통해 메세지를 전달하는 밴드라면, 왜 헛되지 않은 의미 넘치는 메세지를 전달할수 없을까? 라고. 밴드의 리더 김성환은 모든 곡에 대해 소중한 의미를 곡으로 만들었고, 데뷰 앨범에 NO WAR 반전의 메세지로 표현되었다. 이들의 데뷰 앨범 UNTOUCHABLE TERRITORIES는 일본 레이블들을 돌며 가진 PRESENTATION TOUR 때, 서로 함께 일하고 싶다는 러브콜을 받게끔 할 정도로 화제를 모은 앨범이다. 조악한 이 앨범의 8트랙 데모만을 들고 다녔음에도, 이들의 스타성을 인정 받은 것이다. 레이블 DOPE ENTERTAINMENT는 (역시 세번의 공연만을 보고 즉시 계약을 했을 정도로! ) 즉시 BM3 주식회사의 펑크락 전문 레이블 KICK ROCK MUSIC을 일본 파트너로 선정하고, 화려한 경력의 일본인 프로듀서 Takada Tesuro를 영입해서 데뷔 앨범을 완성했다.
녹음 기간에는 부산 아시아드 주경기장에서 응원공연과 펜타포트 락 페스티발의 작은 무대. 부산 국제 락 페스티발의 오프닝으로 선을 보였고, 이 즈음 유명 펑크락 컴필레이션 PUNK ROCK SOUNDTRACK vol.4 에 섭외되어 , 일본내에서 발매가 되었다. 드디어 9월 한국/일본 동시 발매로 화제를 모은 THE STRIKERS의 데뷰 앨범은 일본내 첫주 판매량이 2500장에 이를 정도로 화제를 모았고, 2007년 2월 28일 현재 4890장의 누적 판매량을 보이기도 했다. 그리고 두차례의 일본 투어로 팬들에게 보답한 바 있으며 일본 투어 실황중 한곡이 이번에 발표하는 Nothing N' Everything EP 에 보너스트랙으로 추가되었다.
일본 활동을 하면서도 틈틈히, 사운드데이 공연이나, 여러 공연의 게스트로 참여하면서 팬층을 넓힌 THE STRIKERS는 평론가들과 매니아들에게 한국 대중음악상 최우수 락 부문 2개 부문에 노미네이션 되면서 다시 한번 수준을 알렸고, 노브레인과 크라잉넛을 제치고 최우수 락 싱글 부문을 수상하였다. 오는 4월 2일 이들의 1.5집 Nothing N ' Everything이 발표되고 , 최고의 펑크락 밴드 NOFX 내한 공연 서포트 게스트로 선정되면서 THE STRIKERS의 앞길에 좋은 기회들이 열리고 있다. .... ....
